Freeset DCT1900

Ascom DCT 1900Freeset DCT1900, Ascom's latest in-building wireless communications system, is a unique digital wireless telephone system that can be connected to your existing business communications network.

Freeset DCT1900 delivers communications to mobile employees within the working environment, allowing employees to make and receive calls as if they were using their desk phone, which increases staff productivity and communication. The Freeset system provides transparent service access for thousands of users.

Freeset can be added to any existing business communications network by utilizing an analog interface, digital interface or T-1 CAS connection. These connections provide a fully integrated wireless communication system.

Seamless call handover and automatic roaming features ensure total communications reliability as users move around the designated coverage area.

The Freeset DCT 1900 system consists of the Radio Exchange, Base Stations, and Portable Telephones. These system components are robust, modular and expandable, creating the most flexible and feature-rich mobility solution available in today's marketplace.

System Features

Short Message Service (SMS)
The Portable Telephone is also equipped to serve as a text message pager. A distinct ring can advise the user of an incoming message. The user touches one key to view the message on the display. Messages can be viewed while on or off-hook. The display scrolls the message using the arrow keys.

The handset's non-volatile memory can hold 10 messages of up to 100 characters each. Each message is time/date stamped. The DT620 has a unique dial Displayed Number feature. Number strings within the message blink as the user scrolls through then touches one key to dial the highlighted number.

Continuous Dynamic Channel Selection (CDCS)

Continuous Dynamic Channel Selection or CDCS is a basic feature of the Freeset system. This is the decentralized process by which the Portable Telephone selects the most suitable high quality time/frequency access channel. CDCS continues throughout the duration of the call, CDCS optimizes the distribution of available channels per cell. Calls may be handed over from one channel to another within one cell, thereby optimizing the received signal. The CDCS call handovers are undetectable to the user. Additionally, the CECS capability eliminates the need for radio frequency planning.

Intelligence

When the Radio Exchange receives an incoming call, it transmits the identification signal of the called Portable Telephone to all Base Stations in the coverage area. Because each Portable Telephone locks itself to the Base Station, the called Portable Telephone will receive the signal and start ringing. When the call is answered, the Portable Telephone selects the channel with the best quality. A similar process is used for outgoing calls.

Call Handovers

Whether in standby mode or in the middle of a call, the Portable Telephone is continuously seeking the best channel. If a better channel is found, the Portable Telephone will perform an undetectable handover to that channel. These handovers give Freeset users the freedom to move throughout the facility while always being assured of uninterrupted high quality conversations.

Encryption

The Freeset is fully encrypted and utilizes authentication. The Freeset offers complete conversation security through the use of crypto-algorithms and digital radio transport between the Base Station and the Portable Telephone. There is a new encryption key used for each call.

Standards

The Freeset DCT1900 in-building wireless communications system is compliant with the ANSITRIA/EIA-662 Personal Wireless Telephone (PWT) Standard.

The Freeset system has three major components.

  • Radio Exchange
  • Base Stations
  • Portable Telephones

Components

The Radio Exchange

The Radio Exchange is the interface between a PBX and the base stations. All incoming and outgoing calls are routed through the Radio Exchange, the central equipment of the Freeset DCT1900 system. All functions, such as powering, control and facilities are contained in a small, expandable modular cabinet.

Freeset can be connected to a PBX or Centrex using analog, digital, or T-1 CAS interfaces. Most major PBX types are currently supported by the digital interface and others will be introduced as required. The T-1 CAS interface is a dual density card capable of handling groups of 48 Freeset user extensions when connecting two T-1 CAS interfaces from the PBX.

Signal transport and powering to the Base Stations are provided over ordinary unshielded cable pairs.

Base Stations

Freeset CDT 1900 Base Stations are small, unobtrusive units that provide both coverage and capacity. The Base Station has two antennas providing improved performance through diversity selection. Each Base Station provided eight simultaneous speech channels. Multiple Base Stations are used to create the total coverage area for the Freeset system.

The number of Base Stations to be used depends on the size of the area to be covered and the amount of traffic to be handled. The Freeset system can support up to 120 Base Stations, each typically covering between 70,000 and 3,000,000 square feet. The coverage area also depends on the characteristics of the environment such as the presence and materials of walls and other obstructions.

Portable Telephone - DT620

The DT620 Portable Telephone is a small, lightweight handset that contains all the intelligence needed to handle conversation, roaming and cell handover. All the functions of a wired telephone are available to the Portable Telephone, plus some unique features such as pre-dialing and display editing.

In order to provide the user with preferences and call status, the Portable Telephone is equipped with a three-line alphanumeric display (LCD) and provides audible and visual signals. The digital interface provides digital phone set features and function, including four line appearances. Caller Identification, Call Waiting and Message Waiting.

There is a full line of accessories available to make the Freeset an indispensable part or your day.
